  • thinking about a new bike.. opinions?

So I've had a ton of bikes, sold my CBR1000RR about a year ago. I've always had a soft spot for V-twin bikes, I've had SV650's, sv1k's and liked them alot. So, I was browsing and found a 01 (first gen) SV650 with a GSXR front end, seems really clean and is in my price range. That being said, what is a reasonable price point for these bikes nowdays? I just want to make sure when i get bored of this bike, that i'll be able to get my money back out of it. I'm not really even in the market for a bike, but with how cheap this one is, it'll do me good for bombin' around town when i'm home and the wife's at work (since we only have one vehicle ATM)

An 01 SV with that front end may very likely have been a track bike, so look for signs of safety wire. Not that it's a major concern, but it is something that would be nice to know.

I love those bikes, and since you've already owned one, you know what you're getting into.

    I'd say it's a $2k bike, IMO.

thats what i thought too, but its got a 190 rear tire on it. LOL. so it hasnt been tracked recently, at least. That was my main complaint with the SV's, just how crappy the suspension is compared to a superbike, so maybe with this one, it'll be perfect for me. Thats what I was thinking in terms of price.. sounds good. I'll post up pics later today if i end up going and picking it up.

Is that about what he's asking for it, if you don't mind me asking?

no, quite a bit less then that. has a dead battery and hasnt been ridden since March, so it'll probably take some work to get it back up and running good.

Yeah I'm definitely going to at least go check it out today. I swore my cbr1k was my last sportbike, but maybe not. LOL

does anybody know of any junkyards with sv650 stuff? mainly a gas tank? the lady sent me more pics and now its not looking like such a deal. LOL. the chain looks HORRIBLE, gas tank is trash and it just doesnt look like its been taken care of at all. by the time i fixed everything up i'd be in it for almost exactly what it's worth.

FUCK no. I've gone that route almost exactly, and fuck that. I dont have the time or patience to tinker with an old ass bike with obsolete/extinct parts that breaks constantly. They sure do look cool though. LOL

There's a 1985 GPZ750 turbo on craigslist for sale, but it's $2500. It has an upgraded turbo. That would be fun to run around on.

                        There's also a clean '97 Zx6R for $2500.

These are in the Dallas area.

thanks but if I get a bike, it would have to be alot cheaper then 2500 for me to justify having something around that i really wouldnt ride THAT much. Work intervened today, my truck finally got out of the shop and they called for me to come pick it up right as I was pulling into the neighborhood where this SV is. So, if its still around after all the christmas festivities I'll probably go get it, otherwise I'll just keep an eye out for a cheap xr650 or dr650 dual sport or something like that.
