I don't know much about bikes at all. Gf's dad has a 2008 Yamaha V Star that needs the rear tire replaced. He has the new tire already. He was quoted $150 to mount and balance it. Is that right? Seems high to me. Just don't want him getting ripped off.

Can ya'll remove the wheel before you take it up there? That saves a lot of money. Honestly that tire would be fine plugged. I've ran 10s of thousands of miles on plugged motorcycle tires and never had an issue.2004 Suzuki DL650

Mag wheel or spokes? He have saddle bags or does the exhaust cover the rear axle?Originally posted by jluv View PostI don't know much about bikes at all. 150 is crazy high, but with a cruiser you are gonna have to pay a bit more. It is more work on those and nowhere near as simple as a sportbike or motard.
Cobraman, I assume you are quoting prices that they told you. Again, sportbikes are different.

He does have saddle bags, and maybe the exhaust is in the way, too. It was the Yamaha dealership in Hurst on 820 that quoted him that, saying it was a lot of work. Maybe that's legit, after all?
He's bought a bunch of stuff from them, so I don't think they are mad that he got the tire elsewhere. I just wonder if they've been gouging him on everything. He's a trusting old guy, and wouldn't necessarily know better.

North Texas House of Cycles
Used to be Yamaha Suzuki West
They have a BMW dealer right next door. They share some things there and IIRC are owned by the same folks.
They are a bit high on their tire replacement prices. I bought my new Pilot Road 3 from them for a fair local price but they still charged 35 dollars for mounting and balancing.
