Anyone running Rotella 5w40 t6 oil in the winter?

it's not a true synthetic. i run rotella 15w40 year 'round in my bandit. it's a diesel oil, lot's of zinc, non energy conserving (for those wet clutches) and it's dirt cheap.
my bike is oil cooled and has 50k+ miles so i need to trust the oil i run.
imo, it doesnt get cold enough around here for a 5w, but yes, that would be fine.

also, if you ever want to see how your oil that you are using is performing, black stone labs will send you a free test kit, and you can send in a sample for $20.
that will send you a detailed analysis of how your oil is holding up during your preferred service interval.
viscosity breakdown, metals, etc...

I have seen the reports. I believe I will stick to the 15w40 as well. I am too much of a candy ass to ride in real cold weather. for sure. my service manual recommends oil every 3k miles and a filter every other change.
i change oil every 2500 miles and filter every time, but my bike doesnt get ridden quite so nicely.
that's $25 an oil change with a gallon of rotella and a wix filter, and i put less than 15k on my bike a year.
now, rear tires are a different story, FUCK i burn those up quick.

No bashing here. Ran regular oil in all my dirt bikes, never had an issue. I still think jaso ma is marketing hype. We use the mobil1 4t racing synthetic. It is, unfortunately $10/qt, but zinc and phosphorous is over 1250 ppm. Its easy to buy at oreillys or autozone. Problem with conventional oils and bike temp ranges, is the ash. Synthetic will help keeping the ash out of oil, conventional oil in a race application, we throw away everytime it gets to temp and cools down.pinto gt with wood trim
