i ride expecting every person on the road to not see me and/or cut me off, it's part of riding IMO. when you don't think like that is when you get lazy and bad things happen

if the rider was passing, its reasonable to assume he was in the blind spot when (or if) the old man checked before changing lanes...

if they were traveling the same speed, he was definitely sitting in the blind spot...

it was the passenger side of the truck...

speed and time are irrelevant because as soon as the truck made contact, he began braking... its not like they were cruising down the highway bouncing off each other...

there's only one place the bike could be and hit a mirror when the vehicle began braking... in the blind spot... or the no zone or whatever the hell you wanna call it...

Was the truck passing, was the rider passing, were they both traveling the same speed, if not how different were their speeds, which side of the truck was the rider on, when did the rider hit the brakes, when did the truck brake, how much time passed from the initial collision and the collision with the mirror?

Important details to determine what happened.

side note: there are two gnarly bumps i have become aware of around dfw, so if you're at speed watch out.

I30 to 820 south, almost right after you get on 820. pretty sure i got air last night, not fun.

and 161 to 635 east. mile or two after the split.
There are bumps all over 161 you can take flight on, lol.

It's hard not to want to react when someone's inattention nearly takes your life. I think most people are bad drivers. Nearly every driver on the road follows too closely and gets too close to the car in front of them when stopped. Many people don't use turn signals for anything. Some do use them for turning, but not for lane changes. Many people don't look or signal before they change lanes, they wait until they are mid-lane change. Most don't seem to check their blindspots first either. Damn near everyone fails to yield when merging. Add in cell phones/texting/mp3 players and it's pretty rough out there. As a newb I had a lady change lanes into me on 75 10-12 years ago. No damage though. I had a mega loud D&D at the time too and it was mid afternoon. After a while you can kind of tell who is about to come over into your lane without looking/signaling. I'm not saying it makes it okay to get even for someone else's stupidity, but I certainly understand the feeling.

The site may have changed, but some things never do. LOL

I don't think loud pipes are the be-all end-all, but if someone is coming over and you can pull the clutch in and smash the limiter it usually gets their attention and they swerve back.

You can tell the truly cautious riders though, hell some even make eye contact with me sometimes. They are either trying to eye fuck me or make sure they know, that I know that they are there.

Either way, they are not in my blind spot and for riders that's the number one thing you can do. Stay behind me, stay in front of me or even at my door - but don't stay where it is least likely that I'll see you. Especially on my passneger side. Yall ride so low that if I'm luck I may see your helmet over the bed of my truck if you're doing your tuck thing and in the wrong spot.
On the highway I'm almost always in the left lane. Cars only coming at me from one side. When commuting I like to move a little faster than the flow of traffic if possible. I do the eye-contact thing though. People seem to know when someone is looking at them. I stare in the mirror, wiggle the bike around, and maybe rev the bike depending.

If I'm tucked, I'm moving, and I'm invisible. You won't notice me until I'm already ahead of you. If a rider is tucked at commuting speed, they are homosexual

you are right bikes are hard to see at times and i see kids doing stuped shit every day on them i have no respect for that kind of rider.

hell just the other night i saw a kid on a croch rocket with his GF, both didn't have a helmet on or jackets and were speeding. when i pulled up next to them i bitched them out til the light turned green.

but don't try and act like all bike are so dangerous when you don't know what your talking about. i have been riding for years and never had a wreck with a car due to me being a good rider and watching my own ass.

the way people drive around here is retarded. you have so many people doing stupid shit on the roads. a few weeks ago i had some jack ass in a vett almost hit me in the HOV lane when he cut in front of me to go around traffic. he knew i was their and did it to look like a bad ass.
As a younger man it pissed me off to the point of action. For instance a guy ahead of me rides a wheelie, redneck in truck next to me swerves at ME while minding my own business. I got even with him. It's hard not to when someone intentionally threatens your life, but as an older man it's just not worth it. The world is full of assholes and you won't teach them ALL a lesson. Fighting a 3k-10k pound car/truck with a 375lb motorcycle is just a bad idea. There is nothing to win and your life to lose. Chances are if you do go down in a situation like this the driver is going to leave you for dead. They run more often than not in accidents. If they intentionally take you out you can bet they aren't stopping to call for help.

I swear this has been occurring for a few years now and I still don't have one.
There will be lots of close-calls at first. You'll realize you have to be much more aware while riding than you ever were when driving. Keep your head on a swivel for busy surface streets. After a while it just becomes second nature and if you ride a lot you'll be more aware while driving also. You'll know where not to put yourself and you'll start to get a feel for who is going to pull out in front of you or change into your lane.

if they come in my fucking lane while im there, I'm definitely kicking the shit out of it. so that stupid douche (that can't look) now knows that I am there.

WTF is hard to understand about that . I'm not going to wait until you finally hit me, then kick your door.
It's your stupid ass that should have looked, and my insurance isn't going to pay for shit when I tell them you were in my lane.
