What bank let you finance under 2 grand? Most banks ive seen wont finance less than 6-8k because its not worth it to them to do less.

yea he was... oh well. Can't have everything the way you want it.

I would seriously consider the hatch if it could fit all our crap on a quick road trip.

Putting a wad of 13k down on a car that won't be worth 12k the following year is dumb for a daily drive car.

he could have got a 2006 tdi loaded for less than that, and not loose out on as much money, plus get better gas mileage, larger vehicle, and factory turbo charged to help out with being super sluggish.

Now given, his choice would be an obvious ok one if he was financing with little or nothing down, but bringing $13k to a dealership to walk out with a $12k car is a bad decision.
buying a car is always a losing investment, but when you buy the one with less mpg that will be worth less (and already is), it's like making a bad decision worse.

i'd like to hear how you think he made a smart decision.

Really? I had an 06 focus for my last daily and it didn't get 40 more around 25-35 mpg.

I thought about getting a focus but didn't really like the body style too much on the new ones. That front end looks hideous in person.

the last trip i took in it, before trading it in, i drove to New Braunfels and averaged 39.9 mpg round trip. at one point, my wife was driving it a little highway and in town and was getting 32-33mpg.

Nice car...We are thinking of picking one up for my fiance's brother. Cheap(ish) commuter car with a warranty and great mileage.
