cam base circle too small, the lifters were going too far into the block so Travis had to grind off some of the lifter from the oil hole on the side of the lifter down to the oil band, now im getting really good oil up to the pushrodsOriginally posted by turbostang View PostSo what was the oiling problem?

So, this is the part where I say "I told you so"??Originally posted by bonnie&clyde View Postcam base circle too small, the lifters were going too far into the block so Travis had to grind off some of the lifter from the oil hole on the side of the lifter down to the oil band, now im getting really good oil up to the pushrods
Originally posted by bonnie&clydewhy is it necessary?Originally posted by turbostangSolid lifters are just that, solid. They don't require near as much oil to make the valve train move - and therefor pump a lot of unnecessary oil to the top of the enigne. In some cases, they can aid in pumping the pan dry - and in extreme cases, burn up the bottom end.Originally posted by bonnie&clydeso what ur saying is that the lifters are the wrong lifters??? what lifters do u recommend???Originally posted by turbostangNot necessarily wrong, but something's screwed up with them.
If you can see oil "gushing" out of the lifter bores like you said you could, then that ONLY leaves the lifters as the culprit - doesn't it?
CHECK THEM!!
...and FWIW, that's a bandaid fix - for what you spent on labor you could have just put the right lifters in it. Had you mentioned SBC cam in the first place, we most likely wouldn't have this problem.

No, not a chevy cam a Small Base Circle, aka SBC.Originally posted by bonnie&clydei didnt know it was a chevy cam or else i would have known to get the right parts, as for labor it really wasnt alot, cost less than a set of new lifters
regardless of cost, a new set of lifters is the right way.
