2012 Chevrolet Caprice cop cars are showing up

On October 5, 2009, General Motors announced the Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV).[11] It is being sold to law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and Canadian market as of 2011. Some dealers have been reported to be offering the car to regular customers.[12][13] To be imported from Australia, the new Caprice will be a captive import of the Holden Caprice, as opposed to the Pontiac G8 which was based on the short-wheelbase Holden Commodore version. However, Holden is able to produce the patrol car in short-wheelbase form as it is a main patrol car in Australia in this configuration.[14] Holden will initially outfit the Caprice with the 6.0 L L76 AFM V8, although a 3.6 L LLT SIDI V6 engine will be available nine months later.[15][16] Both engines will be E85 ethanol-capable.[14]

The Caprice is ok I've road in one and wasn't overly impressed, like a G8 as was stated above and I don't believe it will handle the every day abuses as a patrol car. Our deparment is going with the Ford MPV (think Exploder but lowered a little with a few changes) it only comes this year with the 3.7L moter and AWD. The AWD is very odd that in it's FWD until certain perameters are meet then a electronic wet clutch is activated and the rear axle is delivered power. I wasn't able to go but a couple officers and the shop manager went and test drove these at the DPS test track in Austin and these little SUV's out lapped the CV's by a lot and thanks to the stability control were unskiddable.

The SHO has been used for squad cars but it's too expensive. Turbo cars usually don't do to well idling 24hrs a day, or at least that's the theory. Fusion is FWD, and from what I've seen lately departments will chose RWD if they can get it.

Google the ford police interceptor. It has the SHO drive train.

Edit: These things are actually looking pretty cool, 6.0L/RWD, BIG roomy interior, pretty appealing for a cheap car when they come out of service. An undercover version would look killer blacked out and slammed

They weren't trying hard enough.

They tried pretty hard, from what the Ford engineer said it takes live readings from each individual wheel then controls the skid via the ABS. The officer that drove it said the system seemed to work very well but I'm a little skeptical as to how long it will work correctly.

Better apply some "Marie Barone" type plastic covering over those lovely leather seats before they are put to use.
