I thought that at first, but it's obvious that there is at least one other officer on scene with this deputy as they are talking and he would be able to assist. You can hear that someone has called for the fire department out to the scene as well. Granted, he did get them out, but not until the very last second. It just seemed like he was either scared or unsure of what to do. Neither of which is a characteristic of what any LE officer should have. Hesitation is what they teach NOT to do when you're in a situation like this.

do police officers have any kind of rescue training? can any LEO's answer that?Originally posted by Lone Sailor View PostIt just seemed like he was either scared or unsure of what to do.
i'm sure they get some sort of dry land vehicle rescue training but i always thought when it came to lakes/rivers/streams it was up to the fire dept. i'm not gonna lie i would want to jump in and save them but would also be very cautious

If you can help someone without having to get in the water, the less chance you have to become a victim yourself. A officer should take off his duty gear, vest, and boots so he does not get weighed down and drown.Originally posted by Lone Sailor View PostWhat the fuck took him so long to get off his ass and go out there and get them out of the car? Acting all half leisure about it the whole time until he got halfway out to the car. From the time the video starts, which they're obviously already on scene, it took him over a minute of watching the car sink and yelling at them to get out before he finally makes his way out there. Wtf?

I realize that but you can clearly see the car is sinking. It's part of the job, putting yourself in harms way when necessary to protect and serve the public. In the video it's clear he took off his utility belt, but it looks like he still has boots on and I don't see his uniform shirt looking any different as if he took off a vest. It's just weird to me, the car is almost submerged and their still standing them trying to coax them out and using the PA to tell them to get out when it's obvious they can't get out by themselves.Originally posted by FastFord19 View PostIf you can help someone without having to get in the water, the less chance you have to become a victim yourself. I dont believe he waited that long. He was the only one on scene at first. You could here him lean in his car and talk on the radio as his gear was coming off. Then you here a car come flying up and you can see the extra red and blues on the water, he went in the water right after. The guy did a good job. I am a hell of a swimmer but have never tried to swim in gear with boots on. It weighs about 40 lbs and I could probably barely tread water with just me. They train FD on water rescues, with us it is just a wing it type of deal.Whos your Daddy?
