With open sights I would agree. With a scope I disagree on a hog. They don't run that fast as it is, IMO, let alone when they are just "chasing" some calves around.

I find it much easier to shoot a moving target with iron sights than a scope when I'm standing.

My Marlin Model 30A.. Dad bought it out of a Spiegel catalog back in 1963. 39 bucks and for additional 9 bucks you also received a Tasco 4 power scope. Scope is still on the gun and the little 30 cal has killed its fair share of white tails in Pa.

Might be 130-140 range. I weigh my hogs after I kill them and that's no where near 200.

I hit a running buck 3 times at 100 years with the same 30-30 (with iron sites). But then again I've probably shot close to a million rounds, half of which were through my .22 Henry.

With that much experience, shouldn't it have taken only one shot?

I'm not assuming anything. If you're taking it that way then so be it, the shoe must fit. Someone with experience with firearms, mainly rifles, shouldn't have any issue with making that kind of shot.

Bursts of adrenaline will make them run off, and the collapse elsewhere. The first was through the chest...then the neck, stomach, and nailed it in the rear area. When I got up to it, it had died already.

I meant that I can hit a small target like a paper plate with them. I would have to say that I could hit a moving target about half the time if I had a shooting stick to rest on. This is with XS ghost ring sights and hornady Leverevolution ammo. With flat point ammo I doubt that I could do it at that range.
