Wouldn't be surprised if it was. I read that the block was cracked from the front main up to the cam and 5 rods/pistons left the engine.

Driver was Gary Essman. His daughter lives near Austin and posts a bit on the HAMB. Apparently he lost most of the hearing in one ear that night.

This reminds me of a pic that once was on the cover of national dragster, a good friends dad, Tom Lundsted had his super stock I/H standing on the bumper while a rod exited the pan.
