Ok professor, can you say with 100% certainty that those all come from the US? I'm sure the milk does (although it doesn't account for 450 billion in revenue) but the eggs and lettuce may come from Mexico.Originally posted by 03trubluGT View PostLast I checked, the lettuce, eggs, and milk don't come from China.

These items are not imported from Mexico. Only closed vegetables and fruits are since it is globally known that Mexico uses black water for irrigation. Also only vegetables and fruits that do not grow in America's climate are imported, like bananas, avocados, zuccini and other vegetables.Originally posted by Sean88gt View PostOk professor, can you say with 100% certainty that those all come from the US? Actually you are wrong. From the first hit doing a google search of "lettuce imported from mexico":Originally posted by Mr_Fiux View PostThese items are not imported from Mexico. StevoIn 2010 the United States imported 146,818 MT of all types of lettuce valued at $134,688 million, with more romaine and leaf lettuce being imported than head lettuce (FAS 2011). Canada and Mexico have been the leading sources of lettuce entering the United States. However, the two countries traded positions as the top country exporting to the United States until 2002, when Mexico became the leading supplier. Much of this increase in imports from Mexico is a consequence of increased romaine and leaf lettuce imports.Originally posted by SSMAN...Welcome to the land of "Fuck it". Avocados don't grow in the US? Might want to inform the Californian Avocado Commission. I have grown zucchinis in the garden and they are farmed in frost free areas - IN THE US.Originally posted by Mr_Fiux View PostThese items are not imported from Mexico. LOL, you pay into unemployment insurance. You think $400/wk is big money to somebody used to making $2-3k/wk? It's meant to soften the hit while they look for new work.Originally posted by beefed88 View PostWell china can keep their low income labor force. We should focus on our service and tech industries rather than worry about making t shirts, and other consumer crap. We don't help our nation by bringing in minimum wage jobs.
Maybe we should also look at not paying unemployment benefits that are more than people making minimum wage. That's ridiculous that someone with a job makes more than someone without just because they "had" a better paying job and mor material things to pay for monthly.

Anyone old enough to remember when Walmart was making the big push to get into every town in the Country (80's), they played the "made In America" card for most of their products. Once we started shopping there thus putting Mom and Pops Grocery stores out of business, good old Walmart started purchasing Chinese, Mylasia, Viet Nam, etc...
Walmart said F/U to this Country yrs ago, Obama did it when he entered the White House!

I think most of us remember that. Food companies, nutrition companies and corporations like Walmart care about profit, nothing more. They pay lip service to long term sustainability and community development but the only thin that really matters at the end of the day is making money.Originally posted by Zfan View PostAnyone old enough to remember when Walmart was making the big push to get into every town in the Country (80's), they played the "made In America" card for most of their products. I'm pretty sure the shift towards profit at all costs followed the death of Sam Walton.Originally posted by Zfan View PostAnyone old enough to remember when Walmart was making the big push to get into every town in the Country (80's), they played the "made In America" card for most of their products. some people have higher overhead than others. not saying it's right or wrong, but I know plenty of people who have taken 6 months or more to find a livable job in this economy with a true unemployment rate over 30%Originally posted by Forever_frost View Post26 weeks federal plus whatever by state. That's 6 1/2 months right off the bat. Hell no. If you can't find a job in 6 months, you'r enot looking
I've been on unemployment before, and it definitely bridged the gap until I found the right gig, and I'm thankful I didn't have to take a shit job just to keep the lights on because it's hard to land a good gig when you're stocking shelves at Home Depot, and now life is good
