Six Flags over Texas in the 80's

Now that video from 87 is the Six Flags that I remember.

Check this video out. This is 8mm footage that was purchased at a garage sale. Someone shared it on an Arlington fb page I frequent.




We actually went to Six Flags for the first time in 10 years last Friday night. I was surprised to see how little it has changed since I was there last, yet the food and ticket prices keep going up. The park was closed to the public for a private party and we had a free package deal, so it didn't cost us a dime. I will say it was really clean and everyone was very nice, but that may have had something to do with the company they were catering to. Rode The Giant and it has improved ten fold over what it used to be. Much, much smoother. I was disappointed that the Shockwave and oil derrick were closed. The Roaring Rapids is still there and active, which caught me off guard because I thought they shut it down permanently after that lady died due to a raft flipping over.

Are you sure someone died on the roaring rapids? I know several years ago one flipped over, 2 of my friends jumped from the bridge and saved 2 old ladies from drowning. They were interviewed by good morning America and Regis and Kathy lee or some shit.

when I was a little fat kid forced to go to Six Flags by my daycare, I fucking LOVED the cave ride because it was air conditioned! LOL

it was lame as shit, but I was like "that was awesome, let's go again" just to sit in the AC LOL

preach on..... remember the round room that would spin around and the floor dropped down? as a fat kid as i was, it was tough to stick to the wall. my chubby ass slid down faster than everyone else...

Fork bracelet? Lunch was always at cheddars but I just recall getting a hand stamp.

Maybe it was more of a localized juvenile patron thing, but for some reason going to Cheddar's for grub and stealing their forks and bending them in to fork bracelets to wear around Six Flags afterwards was a popular trend for a while.

Some of my fondest memories of Six Flags were concluded with my dad picking me and my friends up at 11pm or whenever they closed and hitting up the Subway close to our house to grab some cold cut combo's then the Stop N Go for fountain drinks and heading back to my place to watch Aeon Flux and whatever else was on MTV that night.

Little known fact about why the cave was kept so cold.



To keep the snakes out. Evidently in the early years of the ride they had problems with reptiles invading, but they would never admit to it. Then all of the sudden the ride became "climate controlled'.



Who came back from Cheddar's with a fork bracelet?

Fork bracelet? Lunch was always at cheddars but I just recall getting a hand stamp.

Got some good Jr. High make out action in the back of the boat in the Spelunker Cave. That was one of the few spots for some air conditioning too.

Season pass the summers of 88-90. Lots of nachos at Cheddars too.

I belive they modified the roaring rapids but they were able to blame it on the people on the raft that flipped. If I am remembering the same incident I belive they got out of their restrants and were rocking it back and forth and cause it to flip. Kind of like when the state fair closed the cable cars that went over the fair when those kids were forcing it to rock so hard it jumped the cable and struck the car going the other way.
