The people we got them from were feeding them a head of lettuce a day.

Is that all? I thought lettuce has no nutritional value?

Your right. If they were feeding them properly they would probably be alot bigger. These are the biggest ones we have had so far and I'm kinda wondering how much they will eat too. We will be feeding them Timothy hay, Fescue and Bermuda grass, Chickweed, Dandelions and cactus without the thorns. Probably will get some misc vegetables even though they aren't ideal to feed them. A little here and there wont hurt.
