Open wheel racing in the US used to be great until Tony George threw a hissy fit in the early 90s and decided to create the IRL in an effort to "be more like NASCAR". If you are as familiar with the scene as I was, you know IRL was a complete and total bust. There were hardly any spectators at the races and no big names behind the wheel. Unfortunately, CART started screwing up and it fell apart and we had no choice, at least in the US, but to have IRL.
