  • A little example how stupid people are...

Respond to call in which a man killed his gf by brunt force trauma last night. We respond to the call in which the alleged murderer is next door at his parents duplex. We try to call him out of the house due to him having access to a shotgun and already showed his capability inflicting death. We set up a perimeter and start evacuating nearby houses just in case the he comes out with the shotgun and gets into a shoot out. So the people that get evacuated are at the end of the street. We get SWAT out and warrants signed to go in after the guy. Red cross responds with food and refreshments for all the evacuated residents. About 3 hours into the incident the evacuated residents start challenging police by cussing and getting the group to agree on bum rushing our command center and perimeter. They yell various things like the majority of folks on this site say "FTP", "You pigs are shit", "All ya'll are bunch of pussys", etc. Then these people proceed to start shit with the Red Cross volunteers that are providing food and drinks to them. So much that the Red Cross packs up and leaves due to the civil unrest. They cause such a distraction as we are putting a plan together that several officers, including me have to leave the command post to address these "authority challengers" from breaking our perimeter and interfering with us taking this guy into custody. How stupid do you have to be that you lash out at volunteers that are providing you food and drinks during a time of inconvenience? Sad thing is a lot of people on this board have this same mentality. What good does it do challenging authority when we are trying to take a "alleged" murderer off the streets?

Long story long... This is why police have to nip it in the bud so one,two or three people don't rial up the group to get them to do something extremely stupid like breaking our perimeter and compromising our ability to take a person into custody.

    • Have to ask. What if someone doesn't want to be evacuated?j

What good does it do to challenge authority? You just evicted people from their homes because of one guy. How many homes was that? How many people had their lives interrupted because you wanted to establish that perimeter for one guy? Were they allowed to pack up a few things to keep them occupied or just told to leave? Define 'evacuated'.

We allowed them to stay if they didn't want to leave. Just asked them to stay at rear of there homes. Only one house didn't want to leave but they changed their minds for whatever reason about 45 minutes after we asked them to leave. Never told, just made them aware of the situation and asked.

Any person that wanted to stay could. We just documented they didn't want to leave and went on

Sure, don't leave so if anything happens you can sue.

          It's a no-win situation.

The job isn't supposed to be easy. If you're worried about anything happening, ask them to sign a liability waiver if they suffer from failing to leave. I don't mind if an officer lets me know things are going on and respects my decision to stay. As long as the officer is willing to turn and walk off, I call it a win

Is it a win when police are trying to take a murderer in custody and have to divert attention away from that task too. Bad enough that volunteers from Red Cross say this is enough and leave. Volunteers that get up out of their houses all hours of the night to provide for these people? There is no explanation for what I witnessed last night first hand.

Btw. Let me stand at ur door for you to sign liability paperwork while there is a murderer with a shotgun 30 yards away. Get out of here man!

Evidently you have no problem standing in my doorway beating on it while yelling "Police" 30 yards away from a guy with a shotgun. You're saying a piece of paper adds danger over you beating on a door?

You mean I have ways to do things that respect natural rights of citizens? Yeah, usually. That'd be the difference in levels of training

I love how you visualize all the thoughts in your head. I wasn't knocking on the door to evacuate. I was part of the arrest team had the guy decided to come out. Secondly knocking on the door for a few seconds is totally different from having someone read a document and agree on signing it. Seriously man are your really this hardheaded? Even though there is a question mark on the previous statement, I already know the answer.

Then you don't have a problem with the other officers banging on the door. Or were they super secret quiet because of the madman 30 yards away with a shotgun? If they feel secure enough to make racket on all the houses surrounding the guy, pull the families out of their homes (voluntarily or not) into the open where he could open fire on them, then there really shouldn't be an issue with "Hi, guy next door is nuts and may have a shotty. We'd prefer you head on out but if not, sign here and we'll be on to the next house."

I have to wonder how well you'd respond to someone beating on your door at night telling you that someone has a gun so leave your safe house and run across the yard in the open because it's 'safer.' And how many houses do you have to clear to guard against a shotgun? Holy fuck. That's maybe 2 houses with the extreme possibility of the one across the street. Maybe.
