So I went to a show with Iwrestledabearonce, Darkest Hour, and The Dillinger Escape Plan...and was probably most blown away by the very first act, Animals as Leaders. I had heard about these guys before this, but never actually heard them play. Well seeing them live made me realise that this band might have the best guitarist born in the last 20-30 years. Over the last week I've been watching interviews and video's of this guy, and I have to admit when I saw him live, he blew my mind, but his humbleness and respect for other guitar masters has made me think, "this is how music should have evolved."..and I'm just glad it exists. I'm sure that plenty of you have heard of him, but for those that haven't, may I introduce you to Tosin Abasi. The future of guitar.

Open your mind. He uses an 8 string guitar...why? He said it's because he doesn't like limiting himself to either really low, or really high notes. He wants access to both...and doesn't want to focus on either. He's like Beethoven. You're not gonna get a specific genre. But a perfect blend of blues and metal.Originally posted by Denny View PostWhat a bummer.... I clicked, looking for the Christ on a Fender.
If you don't play an instrment, you might not be able to appreciate it. The guy is........I don't know. Above and beyond what I could ever comprehend playing."Any dog under 50lbs is a cat and cats are pointless." - Ron Swanson

While I don't play guitar, I'd love to learn the stringed instruments. I do, however, play a variety of woodwinds.Originally posted by poopnut2 View PostOpen your mind. I saw this guy live with my friend Matt and we were both blown away not really knowing who he was. He blends jazz and metal so seamlessly. Just watch some youtube interviews with him. I talked to him for about 20 minutes, because I'm really into Periphery who's leader produced and co-wrote Animals as Leaders album. These guys literally wrote and recorded this album in an apartment. If you want, I can upload Periphery and Animals as Leaders albums so you can download them. They're fucking amazing. Best albums(not including Karnivool) that I've heard in the many-a-years.Originally posted by Denny View PostFixed

Tony is seriously they ultimate troll as far as music goes. If you want, I can upload the album, or find a link for you to download it. It's fucking great. It's not your typical intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge/solo, chorus shit. The guy compares playing guitar to the piano a lot. /inhales... onholds it... exhales slowly...Originally posted by Vertnut View PostThere's so much more to being a "good" guitarist, than just hitting the notes. Hands flying over pentatonic scales are fine, but rarely does it have "soul" to it. B.B.King may play only 3 notes, but he plays those 3 notes better than anyone else.
Man, that's deep, brah!

Nah, I've been playing for years and years, and I'm "OK" at it. I cut my teeth on all the Steely Dan guitar work, because in the early '70's, that's what got radio play (Denny Dias, Jeff Baxter). There's been 100 guitar gods since I was a kid, and it's mainly generationally opinionated.Originally posted by Denny View Post/inhales... onholds it... exhales slowly...
