Antarctica - Winter 2014

Every winter we have a 48 hour film festival. The films needed to incorporate five elements selected by the stations that won last winter:
Davis Station (Sound) - Squealing Pig
Kerguelen Island (Prop) - A swing
Dumont d'Urville Station (Prop) - A Swim Suit
Scott Base (Character) - Wal Footrot, iconic Kiwi cartoon character
Bird Island (Line of Dialogue) - "It'll be dark soon and they mostly come at night, mostly”.
There were about 20 video submissions from Antarctic stations from countries like Spain, France, Australia, New Zealand, England, India, Japan, and of course, the US (and those are just off the top of my head). I'll see if I can't find some of the other videos if they are on YouTube.
Here are the two submissions that came from McMurdo Station:

In that temp, if there wasn't major shrinkage, it wouldn't have problems staying hard. Of course, it might break into multiple pieces like that hose.Originally posted by inline 6 View PostI bet pussy is hard to come by there.
This is a great thread. Keep it coming. You don't hear about life at the end of the world very often.
-70 degrees. Yikes! How long would it take to freeze to death if you got stuck out in it?

25% of the population is female (I think it was actually like 23.4% or something like that). Minus the girls that are married or came down with their boyfriend, minus the lesbians, and minus the girls that are not even remotely within your age group... yeah, slim pickin's.Originally posted by inline 6 View PostI bet pussy is hard to come by there.
Most wind chill and/or hypothermia/frost bite charts don't go that low. But I can tell you I everything issued to me on and I had to keep moving by doing jumping jacks or do laps around the dozer just to stay warm. To be honest, we didn't stay out there. Once we realized it was that cold out there and we couldn't do our job, we packed up and went back to town. Our boss didn't like it, but we got safety and HR involved. But you have to remember, as a mechanic, we need our hands. You can't put bolts in with gloves on, you have to take them off so you can fit your hands into places. When it is that cold it HURTS to touch the equipment!Originally posted by line-em-up View Post-70 degrees. Yikes! How long would it take to freeze to death if you got stuck out in it?

Here are a couple pictures I took on August 9th over at Scott Base (New Zealand base). I am trying to get back into photography and wanted to give HDR a try again.
Pic 1 - Kiwi search and rescue vehicle
Pic 2 - Kiwi Chef. To her back is Mt Discovery (right) and Black Island (left).
Pic 3 - Cat D7H (one of our vehicles parked over on the Kiwi side) with the full moon in the background
Pic 4 - Just the full moon over the Ross Ice Shelf
