That is a shitload of pressure. That's what I find so awesome."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

I find it fascinating. What's the process there? Cutting or pressing? If pressing, is the stock being stretched?Originally posted by Taya Kyle, American GunThere comes a time when honest debate, serious diplomatic efforts, and logical arguments have been exhausted and only men and women willing to take up arms against evil will suffice to save the freedom of a nation or continent.

That looks like pressing, unless the shavings were coming off the bottom. But I think that machine is specifically designed for roller-pressing. Anything that's going through that much pressure is going to give somewhere. Looks like the extra material from the indents is being pressed outward to form the threads. As far as lengthening that stock as it's pressing, it looks negligible.Originally posted by Darren M View PostI find it fascinating. What's the process there? Cutting or pressing? Yes it's going to stretch it quite a bit. It's not subtracting material and those are very deep threads so it will grow in length."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

And the "moved" material is being pressed into the threads themselves?Originally posted by Taya Kyle, American GunThere comes a time when honest debate, serious diplomatic efforts, and logical arguments have been exhausted and only men and women willing to take up arms against evil will suffice to save the freedom of a nation or continent.

Yes, some of it. My father use to be the plant manager of a company called Stan Screw when I was a kid. There was an equation for it, but something like 100ft of blank made 120ft of screw stock or something like that. Even small bolts and screws are made this way. It wastes much less material and is more economical and provides better threads.Originally posted by Darren M View PostAnd the "moved" material is being pressed into the threads themselves?"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Seems sort of like forging, in a way, which means the metal would be stronger than if they cast it that way. Obviously there are some shitty screws/hardware out there that are cast as opposed to what they did in the video above, but I've never had any need for something as hardcore as whatever that bad boy will be threaded into.Originally posted by CJ View PostYes, some of it.
