Plugs my man, plugs. They suck. Ford wants $900-$1500 to replace them and they LOVE to break inside the head requiring many hours of work to remove and then rethread.Originally posted by lowthreeohz View PostI put 150k on mine before the phasers started needing attention.
I charge $550 at my shop but that's because I know a few tricks for them and have yet to break one. Just takes lots of patience, lots of Seafoam and lots of my special orange can nut blaster. Plus a tool that really should never be used.
The 5.4 is a great engine otherwise. Strong, good parts and with maintenance they will go a long time. One bad thing though is the plenum gasket for the thermostat on bottom is prone to failure and is not available by itself and only comes with the $400 plenum.
I hate that Ford does that crap.
"Hey, I need the hard brake line for the driver rear on a 2001 F350."
"Okay, it includes the fuel lines and passenger line and is $900."
$6 and 40 minutes latter I made my own.Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

You're crazy, I paid 5 star less than 100 to change them all, and that included extracting one i broke
. Once you change them to new design plugs its not a problem anymore. The phasers failing is much more costly, and almost guaranteed to happen. The timing chains and tensioner also kinda suck
