I'm sure I'd follow their sop and start cpr as well and transport asap. Unfortunately it was useless. He was shot and had massive hemorrhaging internally, bullet entered should and went through his heart. Giving chest compressions is just speeding up the blood loss. Call it dark but I just found it amusing at what was happening.

Some wounds are not survivable...chest compressions were pointless. His wounds were not survivable.

I do think it's silly to shoot someone and then try to save their life. Cop needs a dose of his own medicine...

Oftentimes I don't attempt resuscitation...when they've been down over 3-5mins then the person will have an anoxic brain injury and if we do get ROSC, the lights will be on but nobody will be home.

I'm referring to field attempts, but I know what you are saying, with most of time upon arrival to ED the MD stops efforts pretty quick. Our protocol is if we arrive to asystole work em 20 mins if no rosc then call it. If it is asystole due to trauma that needs surgical intervention, load and go.

Is really isn't silly if the intent was not to shoot in the first place. His instant reaction after the trigger is pulled is shock and my first reaction would be to try and save the guy after I just royally screwed up.
