I have a friend in LAPD who used to work Mulholland Drive. I was told they don't even bother going after the crouch rockets because either: 1) the bike will get away and they get laughed at back at the station for being a dumb ass, 2) the biker will crash and they spend all night filling out accident reports, or 3) they will crash the patrol car and get chewed out back at the station, and then get laughed at for being a dumb ass.

There is a lot of truth to that statement. Although last night we had one come though our city. We got up on the highway to assist in case something happened in our little stretch. We waited and waited then here come the squads. I thought, did I miss the motorcycle because I never saw one. Nope, they were running all of about 75 and right behind him. I think he stopped at a red light in Plano and they got out and pushed him over. Never heard the reason why or what the deal was but it was one of the slowest chases I have seen.
