Yeah, my guess was that he got hit in the back by the front end of the SUV, since the bike went under it. That bump to his back likely is what shoved him forward into the car in front and kept him in an upright position..

It's easy to say on here, who knows how it would happen in real life, but I always stop near the side of the lane with the most room and leave a lot of space between me and the next car. That way I can gun it forward if I can see in my mirror that someone isn't going to be able to stop.

THey teach this is in the motorcycle safety course. Not necessarily the stay near the side part but leaving space and be cautious of your surroundings.
