More of a precursor to the manumatic transmissions that have come out the last few years in the wanna be sporty cars. C4 ZR1's, had the extra key in the console to allow for partial or full power.Originally posted by ELVIS View Postjust had to google his/hers shifter. pretty sweet! kinda the precursor to the "red key" for the new boss 302 and such.
god bless.

in 69 the gto went to a slap shifter, drop it in first and you could reach over and slap the shifter to the side for second and again for third. they didn't work all that well and only got worse as they got older. mine didn't work all that great before i did my 5 spd swap

My bad its a 68. original color 80k original milesOriginally posted by Gear_Jammer View PostThe easiest way to tell the difference between a '68 and a '69 is the side vent windows. They didn't offer those after '68. Plus, Whiteboy's has a His/Hers shifters, which is another thing they didn't offer after '68.
That looks to be Verdoro green. Do you know whether that's the original color?
I'm trading the 77 t/a for a 68 gto complete 400/400 motor and trans and 12 bolt rear all out of another gto guy did a ls1 swap its ready to drop in and go.
I do have the correct long block out of this car but its been sitting in the weather

Thanks for the info. 242 vin.Originally posted by 69gto View Post68 and 69 are similar cars but 68 had vent windows, ignition switch in the dash not the column, his and her shifter, a/c controls located is different place, brake lights in the bumper, dash gauges and dash are different, rear quarter panel reflector different, arrow head on enduro bumper, front fender emblems , front seat fold down release is different, plus several more little things that are not the same. I am not knocking your car in any way she is a very good looking car and looks like a very easy build, just trying to show some of the differences between them. check the vin a true gto has 242 in the vin code if that is not there beware of a cloned lemans. please post up with the build and have fun

My 73 Grand-Am had a ratchet (slap) shifter. Mine worked pretty good. I didn't have to worry about accidentally pushing it into neutral.Originally posted by 69gto View Postin 69 the gto went to a slap shifter, drop it in first and you could reach over and slap the shifter to the side for second and again for third. they didn't work all that well and only got worse as they got older. mine didn't work all that great before i did my 5 spd swap
