  • This is one most people don’t believe is real until they actually see it. According to Chevrolet order guides (in 1969 only) you could select RPO V75 and you’d receive two cans of something called “Liquid Tire Chain Traction Improver,” inserted into two sleeves in the trunk. When you pressed a dash-mounted button, the material in the cans – Agent Orange? Napalm? Dioxin? – would spray on the tires and provide added traction in the snow and ice.

Seriously. For reals. Apparently, the option ran $22, and was only selected on 188 cars in the 1969 model year before it was discontinued.

I had heard of that option, but didn't realize it only went on such a limited number of cars.

Because the war machine needs new tax dollars.

It was not a joint role fighter, it was only for the air force. Has no provision to land on a carrier, etc.

I remember hearing stories of guys doing similar things w/ a washer fluid pump and a reservoir of VHT instead of de-icing chemicals.

It's fully functional. The 30-40% is likely the "what will be" not the "what is needed". With most anti-DoD propaganda, you really need to analyze what they are saying, and especially what they are leaving out, to suit their goals. It's about 95% spin. Often written to try and focus the heat away from Boeing, or another A&D disaster.

They are for a different role. They are very expensive to manufacture but we will all likely regret that in 10-12 years because of China.

If that's the case why is it limited by meteorological flight? It hasn't even been cleared for instrument flight?

Is it? Our economy has largely circled around defense spending for the last 60 years. We've been in a de facto state of war for decades, building/prepping/building more in an endless circle jerk.

I wouldn't type it here, but it's not that hard to find on the net. It's already been corrected, just not retro'd everywhere. Hard to believe that they missed it.

                                No time soon.

The AT takes most people between five and seven months (2,180 miles). I'm struggling to clear two solid weeks of my calendar for the JMT (220 miles).
