Having worked in hotels for quite a while, I can tell you that most of the maintenance staff have a tool specially made to do that, and if they lose it or it breaks, the gif is basically how they do it. Also, that's how police/firemen do it when they want have the time to do it to avoid damages to the door frame/door, otherwise they just kick it in.
