I was 30 when I got my first. I felt like a goddamned baller!

I ordered ice maker kits for apartments I lived in that didn't come with them since the age of 22. Fuck those trays. Fuck'em. Install an in-line filter, and enjoy clean, delicious ice with my drinks.

The only time I use a try is for freezing coke or orange juice for my drinks, to stop them from getting watered down.
