Yeah. Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker have often said they used Zero Hour! as their template for Airplane! and then cleverly satirized it using an excellent cast of people who usually do serious roles. Leslie Nielsen use to always play the heavy in TV and film back in the day, but ended up making a career as one of the best deadpan delivery comedians of the 80s and 90s (e.g, Naked Gun). Airplane! essentially saved Paramount Pictures in 1980, as the studio was struggling at the time. Airplane! was a hit. Another interesting tidbit; ZAZ claims that 'til this day have never watched Airplane II, because of their refusal to make a sequel. They felt that Airplane! should have never had a sequel, thus were not involved.
