We're in a corridor of flames here in Sac, and there's definitely smoke in the air. I can typically see the Sierra's on the horizon, not so much the past few days.

The long answer would involve recommending some really good books to read, but the short answer involves decades and decades of shortsighted forest management (including a shitty mandate to shop all fires by 10am the day after they were spotted), and population encroachment into those poorly managed areas. Combine that with semi-arid and Mediterranean-like climate in all of central CA...Originally posted by 8mpg View PostWhy does California always have these extreme wildfires?
Yeah, shit's gonna burn. It burns everywhere else too, but in CA it's always in closer proximity to people so you hear about it more.
