Excellent video! I can't imagine the totality of the culture shock. In a lot of ways, I admire the simplicity of the life they had.
I've worked with a number of immigrants from Africa over the years and found all of them to be decent, honest, friendly and hard working men.
I felt sorry for a lot of them though, you could tell they were caught in a sort of catch 22. They came here to make a good living and provide for their families but they really didn't like culture here (in many ways, rightfully so, as has already been addressed).

lol small towns are not isolated from technology, and your neighbors are not as many and farther away. Plus since everyone knows each other, and grew up together, new people are often kind of outsiders for a while. I grew up in a small town, and they aren't exactly Mayberry.

I have also worked with a few from africa, they are hella black but wouldn't classify them as "stupid motherfuckers" because they actually want to work and are actually decent, nice, honest people. They don't like "stupid motherfuckers" either lol, cuz they are different and don't want to be generalized. I knew a nice chick from kenya that wanted my nuts but.. i don't digg black chicks.. she would go on about how similar they were to 1st gen hispanic folk and they same strong work ethic etc.. that she would take care of me blah blah.. i'll pass haha

There was a series on PBS some time ago where they did the same thing and brought several people from [some place in Africa] and put them into apartments and schools in Dallas and Houston. Many got in trouble, mostly the Houston transplants, where they were not accepted. Other's were approached by gang members and were beaten, robbed etc...

One of the saddest aspects of this experiment is the fact that it shows where these people have a value that has since been lost by "us".

As Sean alluded to, this country was founded by emigrants who, at one time, had the same core values that these Africans exhibited (trust in ones neighbors, social behavior, genuine interest in others, etc..) yet for the most part, we've lost that in many respects.

I guess that is what I'm getting at. You can't necessarily know where you're going unless you realize where you've come from.

Our leaders have lost this. In a lot of respects they have calculated moves away from the ideals that the United States was founded on. History is brutal and messy and these feel good pussies that get elected do their level best to hide that. Yet fail to realize that with all the ugly that happened, the single greatest, most prosperous nation ever has resulted....and they're fucking it up.

I believe that we need a massive reset.

Him: Back in my country, when we want to say that someone works hard... we say 'that guy works like a nig-er' but when I got here I learned that this is not the case.

This video is an excerpt from 'The Gods Grew Tired of Us'. These guys were pushed out of their country, Sudan, by civil war. The were afforded the opportunity to move to New York. They're happy and amazed that they can eat whenever they're hungry.

Most of them hold down jobs, several go to college and graduate with Bachelors degrees, and one can't handle the change and goes crazy. Gets put into a psychiatric ward.

Good movie, it's on Netflix streaming, ya'll should watch it.
