You could have picked up an old school Specialized, Trek or Cannondale bike that would have quality parts and wouldn't spontaneously explode on the trail. I see them all the time for $200.

It is usually on Saturdays and Sundays when you are doing a couple laps at northshore you always run into someone broke down on the side of the trail and it is because they had a catastrophic failure of Walmart proportion.

Hey Greg, I'm looking to get a bike too. Want a full suspension baaaad. Ive had my specialized rockhopper 29er has been awesome. Hard tail has been good for my on pavement riding and the light trail riding I've done. But, that bike stays at work 90% of the time with my road tires on it.

I was just telling a buddy about how many times I've seen fork failures of wal-mart bikes. I've never heard anyone say "Ehh, no biggie, my fork just sheered off of the steerer at full speed. I'm just going to walk out"

I even had a guy laugh at us for turning our lights on at dusk. Im sure 10 minutes later he was regretting ever opening his mouth, and wishing he was riding behind us.
