This comment pretty much sums it up (in regards to the spotters):
"Not the spotters fault.. He dropped the weight. When you trying to set personal records and stuff peoples hands can't be on the weight or it does not count. Without actually having their hands on the weight (which no person lifting wants their spotters to do constantly) there is no way to stop someone who straight up drops the stack on themselves. They reacted about as quickly as anyone could be expected to, plus the damage likely resulted from the impact which woulda happened no matter what unless they had a constant hold of the weight and were constantly applying counter pressure to them which would defeat the purpose of trying to get that big and see how much you lift as you were not doing it yourself. Lots of people struggle like he did, until the person starts to actually lose the battle you don't touch the bar as a spotter. He never started to he was still lifting when he just dropped the shit on his chest. Shitty way to go, but not their fault."sigpic

I'd like to see someone suddenly drop 400lbs in the form of a tiny bar handle in your hands and see how well you "catch" it.Originally posted by pr1042 View Postdisagree, there is no excuse for a spotter to have his hands by his sides and the other guy did not have his hands closedsigpic

i've spotted at several powerlifting meets over the years, actually understand how to spot the various lifts and have helped catch bars from crushing someone's face or chest before. I am not the ultimate spotter or captain america but you cannot take a weight for granted just because it isn't a 900 lb benchOriginally posted by Magnus View PostI'd like to see someone suddenly drop 400lbs in the form of a tiny bar handle in your hands and see how well you "catch" it.
I realize that shit happens sometimes but these guys weren't even in a position to help.

Did you even watch the video? His side of the bar was already falling and he just waited for it to give way. Helen Keller even saw it coming...Originally posted by Magnus View PostThis comment pretty much sums it up (in regards to the spotters):
