  • Trust me, getting old sucks....

A little over 4 weeks ago I got talked into playing some drop-in ice hockey. I haven't laced up for over 4 years.

I ended up separating a shoulder and toughed it out for 2 weeks until it woke me up every time I rolled over onto it in my sleep.

I went to the doc and according to the x-rays, I had a Grade 2 separation.

This is the first week back, and the first rotation I used nothing but machine weights. This rotation I'm using free weights, but half of the weight I'm used to using.

Being closer to 50 than 40 sucks.

Turned 50 in April, I feel your pain man. Little things you used to take for granted start to take on a whole new meaning!

I feel you, I severely sprained the ligaments behind my left knee during a "light" leg day a week and half ago, and It still hurts like hell. I wasn't doing anything crazy, and form was good, so the only thing that makes sense is an aging body.

If you're telling me that it gets worse, I want off this train.

I personally wouldn't step into a rink when you have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel

And I can joke about that since I acquired a shoulder impingement of some sort by merely riding on a four wheeler....no accident, no fall, nothing.

I finally started working out this week with chest/bis and just did light weights.

It really sucks sticking with 145 on bench, so I did 3 sets of 20 after warming up with the machine bench.

I also did about half the stack on the fly machine.

The good news is the day after my shoulder didn't hurt. I'm gonna stay light for another week or two and then try to work my way back into my regular work outs.

                Update:

Have been doing pretty good, went fairly heavy on back and triceps.

Did back and then my signature reverse grip bench for triceps and started at 138x8 for 2 sets, then 185x8, 225x8 for 2 sets and I decided to try a set at 275. Got 275 for 2 good reps and racked it. Will see how the shoulder feels tomorrow.

Well, the shoulder felt fine after the reverse grip.

Did shoulders yesterday and the 95's on military were giving me hell. 4 reps were the most I could do. Seems that it's going to be a while before I'm 100%.

You are going to have to give those up eventually.

Yup...less weight, more reps is what you need to be doing instead meathead!

2 reps for triceps isn't exactly a "pump"
