Correct. Also, I need to know what your HBOOT version is so I can post the correct instructions for rooting. To get this, make sure FASTBOOT is disabled and shut the phone down. Once powered off, hold the Volume down then press the power till the White HBOOT screen comes up. Look for HBOOT 2.xxxxxxx and post the number in your reply.

Maybe hte EVO doesn't have fastboot, it's been a long time since I rooted my buddy's. Just follow the procedure I listed to get the HBOOT version.

Look at this and read through it. I'm goin to bed.

Root it, you can unroot and wont lose a thing. I used Z4 root with Droid X Bootstrapper.

Lots of cool apps need SU permissions which you need to be rooted for.

I'm running ApeX with Launcher Pro and Widget locker. I love my droid

While he may attain su w/z4, he can't flash anything because of nand lock. He has to get S-off to rom it and install a custom recovery like Clockwork Mod or AmonRa.

Droid X Bootstrapper runs the Clockwork Mod

              I guess he'd need Evo 4 bootstrapper

Where you located, want to do mine? I'm a little intimidated by all this but I guess I'll give it a shot, just gonna read up a bit more.

If you'll take your time and read the instructions and follow them to the "T", chances are you'll be fine.
There's only a few things you can mess up and only one that I'm aware of on the Evo that the general public cannot recover from.

                        What is that unrecoverable thing?

i was kinda intimidated to root my evo at first, even got some answers here. I rooted using unrEVOked and just waited. I did not change roms a first only making backups and getting titanium.

Now i have learned alot, and am running a modified Cm7. I changed little things like keeping my sense keyboard instead of the asop one. My phone has great battery life, is very fast and I am very glad i rooted.

Best advice is to read everything at xda.

I've been doing a lot of reading over at xda, and the most intimidating thing is that there is a slight chance of bricking it.

Rooting has really become stupid proof. You really have to try hard to dick it up. Just make sure your batt is fully charged and follow instructions.
