Weird pc issue.

    It will just start out of thin air. Electromigration is constant. As the system gets older, it will loose stability - especially in the MCH, and also partly due to your PSU's aging capacitors. The last 4 systems I've owned after about 2-3 years started bluescreening, and it came back to MCH going through electromigration and requiring more voltage - straight out of the blue. Sometimes I couldn't stabilize them anymore with 4 DIMM's and had to double down module size. Also, I've had memory modules shit the bed, even though they wouldn't throw errors in memtest. I've had sticks that were legit bad that would error all to hell in memtest, then reboot the system, and I ran them for days and they never error'ed out. Memtest is a great tool, but with these newer modules, it isn't always a sure thing - so don't rely on it completely. I'd pull 2 sticks and fire up orthos and flog the hell out of it for several hours. If that fixes it, then insert the other 2 sticks and boost your MCH voltage and try it.

        So, it crashed yesterday and swamped sticks and crashed again this morning. Crashed again just an hour ago. Bios is very confusing when trying to increase voltage. it's set at 1.8 with a max of 2.5. I'm not really sure of what i'm doing when looking at the bios options.

          Did you boot up one stick at a time when you swapped them? I think it is the mem, maybe all of the sticks went bad.

                      Update. I am not using slots 2 and 4. Pc hasn't crashed since last post. Can a slot cause crashing like this?

                        well if its a DDR board, and an earlier one 2 and 4 would be your 2nd bank.

                          Just an update. Cleaned the inside of the pc and the heatsink was caked with dust on the inside. Cleaned out the heatsink and the rest of the guts and so far so good. Pc was still shutting down regardless of what ram stick was in any slot. I am really thinking that was the problem. Could be wrong. As clogged as that heatsink was, hard to believe that wasn't causing issues.

                          Thanks for all the help everyone. Don't know what to do if it persist after this
