Ok i need vista help or maybe a copy of 7

Computer runs fine but in the last couple months a bunch of icons on my desktop dissapeared.. tried searching for my music and the only place i can find it is windows media player... some of the songs say they are there but wont play.. just lots of quirky weird shit.. any suggestions?
