Can't read external HDD after upgrading OS.

I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion a couple of weeks ago, and now I can't view my external hard drives. It gives me this error.




How can I fix this?

Granted I'm not a Mac user, the error looks indicative of something went wrong in the OS upgrade process.
