  • Best tablet buy at the moment?

Thinking about replacing my laptop with a tablet. It's been a while since i've looked over the options available, but what options do I have for a tablet with a detachable keyboard, HDMI out (preferrably full size, but micro if I have no choice), and easily configurable with .mkv video files and can handle 1080p out.

I want something with a high resolution, the Nexus 10 and the Transformer TF700 look decent, anyone own one?

I have a nexus 10 - very happy with it

It has miniHDMI and full HD capabilities

Only thing I have noticed is apple has a few better tablet apps - android is kind of dragging in that apect

I have a nexus 10 also. It's my first and only tablet but I've been happy with it.

How versatile is the hdmi? Does it "just work" every time all the time?

If you want a full laptop replacement, check out the Windows 8 tabs and get one with Win8 pro, not RT. Full desktop functionality. It doesn't have the hardcore hardware to do things like graphic design/CAD/gaming, but it will have enough to do normal office duties: Microsoft Office work, web browsing, remote desktop, etc. A friend showed me a Lenovo tablet that he's looking at buying the teachers in his district to replace their desktops. It has a dock available, HDMI out, expandable SD card memory slot, and it's pretty good pricing for all of it.

            Edit: This one: http://shop.lenovo.com/betaweb/us/en...kpad-tablet-2/

Edit #2: Just saw it doesn't do full 1080p...other than that it seems like an excellent tablet.

I've been considering the Lenovo. I looked it over at best buy. What concerns me is the low resolution. It seems Microsoft is very particular on their resolutions. Not many options. Windows 8 pro is attractive to me from the versatility aspect.

We have a few of the dell tablets that come with windows 8, to be honest. I'd rather just save a bit of money and get a nexus 10.

The main issues we've seen so far is that everyone that has one is trying to do too much on it. And lets face it, the atom proc is simply not that powerful. For what most people up here are using them for, I think you can get away with doing it on an android device as well.

Yeah the resolution is a bummer, but in every other respect I like it. I haven't played with the dock/keyboard portions, but the tablet itself is light without feeling flimsy, and the only problems I have ever had with lenovo were the moving parts inside them, of which this tablet has none.

I bought a Tab 2, 10.1 and liked it a lot at first, but about 6 months in and the damn thing stopped doing anything automatic like download email. I had to do a hard reset, then a factory reset.

Tablets are great for surfing on the toilet or sitting in front of the TV but you can't print from most of them and honestly, I'd sell mine for $200. Battery life is great. I use it maybe 1 to 2 hours per day and charge it once a week.

Typing on them sucks even if you get a BT keyboard. You can fly without taking it out of the bag.

I travel 80% of the time and got tired of carrying a big laptop. Switched to a netbook which was fine but was slow and had Win 7 starter edition which was too stripped down. Screen sucked too as everything was small and could not be seen or see a lot on a large spreadsheet. Went to tablet which was all around better than the netbook....except it's a PITA connecting at hotels and even worse if they only have wired access. So after going smaller, I have gone back to a 17" dell laptop I inherited and upgraded. It weighs a ton but I can actually use the damn thing and wish I could sell my netbook and tablet.

Sorry for the randomness of the ideas above but just started rambling.

I've also done the same thing with phones...went small and then went back to a Galaxy note so I can see/use the damn thing.

So I think the Nexus 10 might be what I'm going to pick up tonight. I picked up a Win8 tablet at the local best buy and did a little test. I downloaded a random program I would use, and tried to install it. It gave me an error "cannot install this application on this operating system." Well, that's all I really needed to see. If the first random app I try to download is incompatible it's lost the only interest it has to me. I know android very well, and now that there appears to be more torrent support it's probably the best choice. That and I really want a high resolution. Does the Nexus 10 take SD cards?

Unfortunately it doesn't, probably because Google is really pushing their cloud based software (Google Drive).

Damn. Do you get more space if you buy one of their products or something? I can't store all my gay porn on google drive.

You get 5Gb free storage for your Google Drive and Google+ photos and the typical 10Gb for Gmail. After that it's monthly pricing.
