  • Trying to install and SSD

So I bought a crucial m500 240gb SSD to put in my Asus G75.

So I make the three disk backup of my OS using ASUS's AI backup utility.

Slid the SSD in, loaded up the disk and went through the install process. Reboot computer and "unable to read drive".

Fought that for a while. Bought windows 8.1 Pro.

Slid that disk in, "can't find hard drive."

When I click browse to look for the driver, C: drive and X: drive show up from the asus windows 7 install I tried.

WTF is going on? I've been building computers for years and have never had this problem.

Does the bios see the drive?

Is the new drive the one you are booting from?

Does the drive letter come up in the OS?

Try going into BIOS (If you can see it there) and change it from AHCI to IDE.

I had the same issue and that solved it.. then there is a way to get the AHCI to work from within windows. I never did that though and it works great
