To put it another way, the season opener syncs with issue 100 of the comic. The most recent issue is 161, I believe. Plenty of material left.

They say they have enough material for at least 10 seasons, and I think that was estimated off of the published comics. Plus there is the 2 year gap I read about that happens after the Negan storyline, and the show could fill a season with that just so there is no gap if they wanted. Plus you have to consider future storylines the comic writer has written down or rough sketched as I am sure he probably has ideas going. Also, the comics and show have diverged quite a bit, so who is to say they don't completely split? Or maybe the tv show gets ahead of the comics and the comics get material from the show eventually. This is all assuming it goes on past the assumed 10 seasons. Lots of ways they could go.

Rick pussing out? No freakin' way. Over the last couple seasons, WD had illustrated that they learned their lesson from the snooze-fest that was season two.

I predict that the saviors are dealt with by end of next season at the latest, and it'll be a fun ride between here and there.

I don't think Rick is being cowardly. I think it's more of a muse so he can study the behavior patterns of the Negan clan before taking action. He maybe acting like a sackless wonder to protect the others from getting any ideas and rallying before knowing what they're up against. JMO
