To put it another way, the season opener syncs with issue 100 of the comic. The most recent issue is 161, I believe. Plenty of material left.

They say they have enough material for at least 10 seasons, and I think that was estimated off of the published comics. Plus there is the 2 year gap I read about that happens after the Negan storyline, and the show could fill a season with that just so there is no gap if they wanted. Plus you have to consider future storylines the comic writer has written down or rough sketched as I am sure he probably has ideas going. Also, the comics and show have diverged quite a bit, so who is to say they don't completely split? Or maybe the tv show gets ahead of the comics and the comics get material from the show eventually. This is all assuming it goes on past the assumed 10 seasons. Lots of ways they could go.

Word is that in the opening scene you can see a morris code chart on the wall when Mishoan (sp?) goes after the hidden rifle. Fast forward to when Rick and Daryl are at the entrance together. They say that Daryl is blinking "I East".

Could be a sign that a rescue mission could be in the works.
