This was on HBO last night. It was episode 8 so I had no idea what was going on, but that episode has me intrigued. Is this worth watching from the beginning?

meh... it's okay... Overall it was kind of a let down, seemed like the series was building a climax that never happened."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin
"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury." -Alexander Fraser Tytler

It's one of those things like Jarhead, they portrayed the views of the individual Marines heavily and what they were expecting in the "BIG INVASION"Originally posted by 5.0_CJ View Postmeh... it's okay... It's not a big shoot everything up series like Band of Brothers or the Pacific, but it stayed pretty accurate to the book and it is retelling a historical view. I thought it was well worth it, imo.

Climax never happened, because it got cancelled in season 2, right?Originally posted by 5.0_CJ View Postmeh... it's okay... Season 2? I thought it was a predefined miniseries.Originally posted by bcoop View PostClimax never happened, because it got cancelled in season 2, right?"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

It was only supposed to be a 7 part series from the beginning. The whole point was to follow the batallion until they made it to Baghdad, which of course didn't make for much of a climax.Originally posted by bcoop View PostClimax never happened, because it got cancelled in season 2, right?

yeah that's kind of a shitty idea for a series. EVEN then, climax at a baghdad battle or another battle that occured. I thought it had some great camera work, decent CG, and memorable scenes - its just the script went nowhere.Originally posted by BP View PostIt was only supposed to be a 7 part series from the beginning. It's based off a bad book to make a war movie out of in the first place. The book was a piece written by a Rolling Stone journalist to highlight this generation still has heroes like WW2 had just not in a traditional Americana form. They were attempting to capture the point of the book not tell a 7 part modern band of brothers series. If you want a war book about Iraq to be made into a movie or a miniseries No True Glory or something similar would be much better than Generation Kill. I'm sure the name and the overall content of the book and miniseries is what garnered it attention but the story isn't so much about the war as it is the Marines in it. They didn't need a battle to climax for it, what they needed for a proper ending was to include the appendix of the book and follow the Marines home from that deployment. IMO the miniseries is great but doesn't do the book any justice.Originally posted by 5.0_CJ View PostIts a writing shortcoming not a reality issue. Any war series can choose a battle to climax at.

Good book, Ive read it a couple times. Saw the first episode of the show and just couldnt do it after that, not big on TV. If you like to read though check it out. BTW just for a little trivia, Rudy Reyes on the show is actually the real Rudy Reyes from the book. And I believe the SMaj on the show is actually one of the Gys from the book
