I've always known you were a nerd beyond normal levels, but it's still entertaining when you pop off with some random facts that 99% of people wouldn't even catch.Originally posted by BLAKE View PostWell, in the LOTR movies they established that Legolas hadn't even heard of a drinking game and didn't understand the concept. Gimli was passed out hammered and Legolas could "feel a tingling in his fingers".
In the Hobbit, the kingdom that Legolas is from (and presumably will be present in, since Orlando Bloom is in the movie) plays a huge roll, and they're all drunk on wine. A lot.
It's a very minor point, but I've read these books and seen these movies so many times, it's this sort of minutia and minor inconsistencies that will keep me entertained.

Well, for someone just wanting to read the stories it would:
The Hobbit
LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring
LOTR: Two Towers
LOTR: Return of the King
If you want to go deeper, read the Silmarillion. Probably be best to read that last though. It is an origin story of how the whole world started.

Personally, I wouldn't read them before seeing the movie. I did that with Fellowship of the Ring and spent the whole movie analyzing the differences from the book. After that I waited and the next to films were a better watch. It also gave me some good visual vocabulary for reading the books. Being able to more fully visualize the scenery and stuff.Originally posted by Steve View PostI really need to read the books I think. Anyone have the list of titles and the order to read them in?
But the Hobbit is a pretty quick read. The LOTR trilogy is a very purposefully-written looooong journey. Totally worth it, but you've got to be prepared for a lot of walking, lol.
