Nope, wish there was - I'll be in Germany in two weeks - and I'd be all over that. Most citizens in Germany do not own weapons. We treat them as a tool here in the US. In Germany they are a privilege - you need official approval for every weapon, they make the decision, not you.Originally posted by bottlerocket View PostSo is it even possible to bring back a 91 or 93 from Germany if you go there? Not sure how the logistics of that works

That's a good price. I find broken ones for around $250 on occasion.Originally posted by vadertt View PostI think I might pick one up soon then, I've been seeing them for under $550, I'll try to pick your brain first though.
GSXR5K brought over one he was looking to buy and it had a misaligned cocking tube - for example. Century messes up all kinds of things. I looked over their HK93 'attempt', the guy was complaining about magazines falling out. Century didn't drill the mag release straight, it was at such an angle it didn't even grab the mag. They also forget to weld the rails/races on the receivers of the G3's which eventually causes death dimples and out of battery discharges. So, if that doesn't scare you, a good one can be had and they are great guns and really fun if you get one made correctly. I use to think Century made halfway decent guns, but as of late, and the more I seem to see I feel less confident about that to the point now I don't trust them at all.

PTR is great for the money. Century CETME's are very hit and miss, really need to know what you're doing to buy one - they really messed them up quite often - but you can find good ones if you know what to look for. I can give you a few things to look for when buying one to identify problems they usually have. A good shape CETME is an awesome gun for the money, the best .308 rifle for the money there is.Originally posted by vadertt View PostSo since I can't afford anything HK, are the CETME's any good? If so what model/generation is ok? Are the century arms or the PTR 91 ok?

That's right, it was developed by Ludwig Vorgrimler a designer from the Mauser Werkes, who was originally one of the designers w/ Stecke on the MG42 (where delayed roller blowback came from). When it became clear that the Germans were going to lose the war, several of the weapon designers sought refuge with different allies of the time to produce weapons for them in exchange for the avoidance of possible war crime charges. Vorgrimler took his experimental STG-45 design to first France first, and then after being turned down, he was approached by Spain, and was able to get contracted to produce what became the CETME rifle. Once his contract was complete he garnered attention from the West Germans and eventually ended up partnering with H&K to produce the CETME B. Eventually H&K purchased a license for the design to produce the G3 - so it's kind of an interesting story. Contrary to popular belief, the CETME is the original rifle (commonly referred to as HK91 'clones'", and the G3 is the actual clone.Originally posted by DOHCTR View PostHK roller locked stuff is based off of a very, very old design, and as such is not as plug and play as a lot of modern stuff.
