If you buy a fresh maglite to do the job on you should expect about a $90 investment if you get in on a group buy of the parts. Maybe cheaper but that is pretty much a ceiling price.

Are these just modified DVD burner lasers?

no, those are a different color wave length and have more ultraviolet light to them which you cant see and it makes them all the more dangerous to your eyesight. Also I am not sure you can push them as hard as the diodes in these lasers.

It seems the lasers have been a hit. I had 3 sold and that quickly became 5, I had to talk my contact into building a few more in short order to fill the need. If you want one PM me asap. JUST FYI, I am not making a buck on these, just passing along the good deal. This is a stupid cheap price for a laser with a guaranteed power output this high.

Flashlights are still on I am just waiting to talk to my coworker about some parts on Monday.
