SWAT magazine just did a shoot with a colt factory AR, 19,000 rounds with NO cleaning only a lube everynow and then. End result was the gun exploded but hey who is going to shoot 19,000 rounds with out cleaning the damn thing? Who can afford to? I will see if I can find the article the pictures are awesome.

    You are clueless.
Truth be told, I don't waste any part of my day trying to imagine anything about you.

I actually did a job in the service that required an IQ greater than shoe size. Since you had to be told to put a condom on your barrel, I'm sure you don't meet that requirement.

Did you do that, or swipe it off of some website?
Nope, regular ass mil spec bolt from model 1 sales. Got the pictures from The Firearm Blog.

Would you still choose the AR?
Well it depends on the frequency of use, storage, and even more importantly environment. I would trust my abilities and my weapon to hold up. If not I would hope to have my AK for backup.

On my survival list, ability to clean rifle is in top 10, right next to moonshine.

Of course I would... this cleaning theory is extremely weak. Seems like everyone throws it out there, but never thinks anything through. How many rounds do you expect to shoot? Thousands? Do you really think you would survive shooting your gun over a thousand times and not get killed? You couldn't even carry enough ammo to dirty an AR up so bad it didn't function. Seems like everyone expects to be in some firefight in call of duty. It isn't hard to clean a gun. Give me nothing more than a dirty ass AR15 and a forest and I will come out in 1 day with a spotless clean rifle. Unless we're taking into account whoever owns this rifle is a complete idiot, I don't see the weak argument around not being able to clean your weapon. And that's to even consider I subscribe to the AR-15 is less reliable than an AK if it isn't cleaned school of thought, which I'm firmly against.

I love shooting my AK, and I grew up shooting everything, and it is by far my most favorite rifle to shoot for fun, blow through ammo. I grew up shooting 99% iron sights, so there is a definate familiarity to that strange commie gun. I love the loose, shoddy feel to it. I love the cheap ammo too.

But in the face of death, give me my AR. Much more accurate, less recoil, and overall more dependable. I have a mid-legth, and while i learned on iron sights, my sight selection for this rifle is soooo nice! The feel is superior to almost anything ive shot. Easy to strip, clean, and customize to me.

Plus in the SHTF cenerio, holding an AR, m16, or m4 is like an American flag, where as the AK screams bad guy, lol.

Yeah, unfortunately I've never shot that many without cleaning myself though.

Sand LOVES to infiltrate the AR and make stoppages.
The AR doesn't have a reputation outside of apparently needing to be cleaned after every 10 rounds. The AK is the one with the reputation of being indestructible.
