What purpose does someone have to own a high powered assault rifle, such as an M-16/AR-15/M-4/AK-47/SKS.... just asking
Ummm... Fun? They are fucking fun to shoot. Look at this vid.

Thats a lot of fun IMO. That is the reason why I need a semi auto rifle.

Its not an assault rifle. It just loads ammo via a magazine instead of a tube or clip.

Colonel Jeff Cooper's, "scout rifle," concept. Basically, it was a fast handling bolt action carbine, with a medium objective, low magnification scope mounted as far forward as possible for maximum eye relief. A stupid tough fixed power 6x scope would work pretty well here. I'm considering throwing something like that, or a Nikon's Coyote Special on Savage's Precision Carbine. I love that little gun!

Most "Assault Rifles" are nothing more than varmint guns on steroids.

They are a LOT less powerful than regular hunting rifles.

    Have you ever seen this?

I think it is for that reason, I am going to end up keeping my old antiquated but accurate as hell M1 Garand. It delivers a wallop that most modern semi autos cannot. It's also just plain fun to shoot. I get a giggle every time I hear the clip ejected TING!

I can also get some pretty awesome bullets for it legally still too.

Glad to see you kept your cool on that one, I just woke up and was going to do the standard forum answer. Trick for me is remembering that sometimes people don't know and if someone does not explain another side of the story -- they'll never know.

Now, if they know and understand both sides that is a different story...

I really don't know why I typed this out...

I already answered the question. Hog hunting. They are pack animals, you need a semi auto to hunt them effectively. I'm sick of hearing the assault rifle crap, they are semi auto.

Another answer would be to overthrow ones oppressive government. In the event tyranny reigned and my well bring and freedoms were under attack it would be the responsibility of the citizen majority to overthrow ones government. You don't let a potential adversary choose the rules and means by which you will fight. You better believe the government won't come to your door with a remington 700. That is your purpose you so badly crave and gambled wouldn't be explained.

I'll be completely honest with you, I'm quite upset I don't have anti-armor and anti-air weapons in my safe. Because I think they are just as important as these demon assault death rifles. And I'm not a wacko nut job in the slightest, I'm a white collar desk jockey.

my purpose is a combination of 2 that will be familiar to some:
To protect against all enemies, foreign and domestic
To locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver or to repel the enemy's assault by fire and close combat

Now your turn, what weapons do you think we should be allowed to have? And why?

the exact same as any other rifle. The question is stupid in its very asking as the rounds fired from those weapons are not nearly as "high powered" as plenty of other hunting rifles. They dont make you any more dead than your dad's 38 special. You are asking the most common anti gun question. They are neither more deadly or likely to assault than any other weapon. Why do you need a car when a horse will get you there. Why do you cook on a stove when you could just make a fire in the yard. Those comparisons are every bit as dumb as yours. More people are stabbed with "high powered" steak knives than butter knives, fuck it, lets outlaw knives.

I guess I should have said use instead of designed... poor choice of words.

Not a single person needs an AR or AK... but you could say that about a lot of other things as well.
