    Laws against selling/shipping 10/22 magazines across state lines?

    So I finally find a guy on the board who apparently has quite a few 10/22 magazines for sale for a decent price. I know very little about the guy, damn near nothing, and don't want to get into a scam or worse illegal activities due to my own ignorance. So, knowing I am asking for free legal advice from a group of folks who may not be lawyers, I'll take the responses to my question with a bit of salt and if necessary, consult a subject matter expert.

    So, does anyone know if it is illegal to purchase 10/22 magazines from someone who may not have a single gun license, possibly across state lines, and shipped in a yet to be determined manner?

    (Yes, I am aware, stranger danger.)

    Are you talking about standard 10 rounders? What state is he located in?

      Nothing illegal on this. Just a part of a gun and not considered an actual firearm or an NFA part/item by the ATF. You are good to go!

        Apparently 30 round clips and I don't know yet. There is speculation he is in/around the DC area. I've asked for the minimum requirements for a typical internet deal. Name, number, ship from, etc.

                Haha, Well done CJ. He even had it right in the first post.

                OP I don't know about DC, but I know in some states (California for example) individuals are not allowed to own 30 round magazines. If he can own them in his state I would guess you would be gtg, since buying/owning them here in Texas is not a problem.

                If you change the word from clip to magazine in post number 4 and beg for forgiveness CJ might help you.

                          You can buy them and have them shipped to Texas with nothing to worry about (law wisw)

                          If shipping them out of Texas, take them apart and put a note you are sending a magazine repair kit. Its not illegal in any state. Example in California you can receive a parts kit but its a felony on the assembler if he puts it back together.

                            You can have them shipped to Texas no problem, if he is in California it is illegal for HIM to own them, but to ship them out to you for you to own IN TEXAS it should not be a problem. Also in DC area or Virginia, I asked a gun shop whilst in Arlington, Virginia and asked and trolled their laws compared to ours. In DC you are Shit out of luck to own magazines over 10 rounds, but in Virginia you can have mags over it without any bother as long as its .22 caliber. This was back in 2010 I have no idea what the laws are now.

                              you need to disassemble them for cali and a few other states and they are ok to ship as they are parts at that point.
                              my buddy just sent a 30 round mag to cali that way. if you look on guinbroker alot of people send them like that to cal.
