my dad is a lawyer and I just graduated high school.

My neighborhood is nice but not near as nice as you'd think. It joins with a pretty bad neighborhood though, so it is not out of the ordinary to see some sketchy characters. Crime doesn't happen too often in my neighborhood, but it does happen. Neighbors home was vandalized one night last year while they were home. There are usually a couple burglaries, stolen cars, etc. The only sort of violent crime was three years ago when someone was stabbed.

Never hurts to be prepared. My parents don't own any weapons at all. I'm sure many people on this board live in nicer houses/neighborhoods than me and still keep a firearm on the nightstand.
