    It's more about the neck. The steeper and more great the step down is on the neck (for instance necking down a .50BMG to .223) the higher the heat/velocity of the charge is leaving the barrel, and it tends to burn away the lands close to the chamber. Think of it like an acetylene torch every time you pull the trigger.

        Overbore is the bullet diameter to powder charge ratio.
