I have a 1911 that I want to put new sights on. Where is the best place to go? Anyone have any suggestions for a place to go to get them installed? What about getting them sighted in, will I have to do that or will they set them up when I buy them?

Right now it has just regular iron sights, I mostly use it at the range now but wouldn't mind paying a little extra for some good quality sights.Originally posted by ThreeFingerPete View PostWhat style sights are currently on the gun? I guess that's the problem then, I don't know what I want, LOL. I only really use it at the range, but would like something that later on down the line I could possibly use in competitions if I wanted to. Don't think i need night sites as I don't plan on using it in the darK, Really just something for range use. I'm a total noob at this only been shooting about 3 months so I just don't know what's out there, that's what I was hoping to find out, or maybe be pointed in a direction so I can do some research on my own without looking too dumb.Originally posted by Nash B.Damn, man. you can do it yourself with a punch and a laser bore sight."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

I would certainly like to learn but I don't have a laser bore sight and I think this might be better left to a professional or at least someone with more expertise than me.Originally posted by CJ View Postyou can do it yourself with a punch and a laser bore sight.Originally posted by Nash B.Damn, man. no problem, it's my obligation on this board to tell everyone they can do anything themselvesOriginally posted by Wicked98Snake View PostI would certainly like to learn but I don't have a laser bore sight and I think this might be better left to a professional or at least someone with more expertise than me.
If you don't have a bore sight I wouldn't recommend it.

Any place locally I could go to look at them and possibly have them installed?Originally posted by dee View PostA good adjustable rear plus a fiber optic front would probably serve you really well and as CJ said can easily be done with hand tools.Originally posted by Nash B.Damn, man. There was a set screw securing the rear site and after shooting some rounds through it I found it on the table in front of me, I put it back in with an allen wrench but now I'm not sure if the sights will be accurate or not, that is one of the reasons I would like to change. I certainly agree with your thoughts and I will still be going to the range every week I would just like to practice with the new sight so I can get used to it. I will post pics of the gun when I get home tonight.Originally posted by Big A View PostAt this point the money spent on sights and install would be better used for more ammo, range fees, and practice.Originally posted by Nash B.Damn, man. These are just the most basic black sights, I think they are called a dovetail rear sight and then just a black single post at the front. It's just a cheapo RIA 1911A1 9MM.Originally posted by ThreeFingerPete View PostDo you know what kind of sights are on the gun?Originally posted by Nash B.Damn, man. Sorry to hear that.
